UCAS News
Applying to the UK this year? Here are the key dates:
4 September – completed applications can be paid for and submitted to UCAS.
1 October 18:00 (UK time) – application deadline for UCAS Conservatoires music applications.
Applications for dance, drama, and musical theatre courses may have a different deadline – check conservatoires’ websites for information.
15 October 18:00 (UK time) – deadline for applications to the universities of Oxford and Cambridge, and for most courses in medicine, dentistry, and veterinary medicine/science.
2020
15 January 18:00 (UK time) – equal consideration deadline for applications for most undergraduate courses.
University of Vermont News
The University of Vermont is now SAT and ACT optional for international students. They do not require SAT or ACT scores for scholarship consideration.
Their top international merit scholarship goes up to $20,000 USD per year. Students are automatically considered for scholarships upon application and will be notified of their award at the time of admission.
UVM now accepts Duolingo, ACT English, SAT EBRW, and Cambridge English Exam in addition to TOEFL and IELTS as an English language proficiency exam. Students who have spent 3 years in an entirely English based curriculum with no ELL in the final year or who are enrolled in a full IB Diploma program are eligible for an English proficiency waiver. Our English proficiency minimums are:
80 TOEFL
6.5 IELTS
22 ACT English section
550 SAT EBRW
105 Duolingo English Test (DET)
180 Cambridge English Exam

Our BIGGEST University fair yet
Parents and students from grades 9 to 12 are invited to attend Hanoi International School's World University Fair on Thursday 26th September. Over 165 universities from Korea to Spain, from Hong Kong to Germany and from Australia to Canada will converge on our school for a series of informative workshops and an information fair. The Premier University in the World for Diplomats
Another win for Ji Sung - he has been admitted to Europe's premier social science university, Sciences Po, to the Europe/Asia program. It is arguably the best university in the world for students seeking a career in organisations such as the United Nations, the World Bank and NATO. We are of course delighted that Ji Sung has been invited to study here.

News from Northeastern
Nam sent us this photo of himself & Duca, at Northeastern University. Nam has secured an internship as a Research Assistant at Massachusetts General Hospital, which is affiliated with Harvard Medical School. Watch this space!!!

Mini World University Fair
This week our Grade 10 students participated in a mini-world university fair, meeting with the selection officers from institutions from France, the USA, Canada, China & Hong Kong
Success at ICU
Last week Karen received the great news that she has been accepted to study at Japan's International Christian University (ICU). In 2017, ICU was ranked 15th among all universities, and 3rd among private universities in Japan by Times Higher Education and Benesse.
A Scholarship for Viet Anh
It's not common for undergraduate international students to secure a scholarship in the UK, so we are super-excited to announce that Viet Anh has been granted an annual scholarship of over US$6000 by the University of Glasgow, where he has been offered a place in their Mechatronics course.

Our first University offer for 2019
Congratulations to Kanato in Grade 12, who has received an unconditional offer form Japan's prestigious Waseda University. It was Kanato's first preference, so we are even happier with this news.
University of Sydney @ HIS
The University of Sydney will visit HIS this Friday 11th January at 12:45pm, with representatives from the following faculties: business, engineering & IT, humanities & social sciences, science and health & medicine. All students and parents are welcome to join us in the library for this event.

French Cultural & Educational Coffee Morning
HIS will host a special event in conjunction with the French Embassy on Monday 10th December. Grade 10 & 11 students will explore French culture and learn about English-speaking study options in French universities. All parents are invited to attend this event. More details soon.

British Roadshow Visits HIS
Last Friday we welcomed the annual British Roadshow to HIS. Our Grade 9,1011 & 12 students met with over 15 universities from the UK to learn about study options, visa requirements and pathways into the UK.
French Connection
We met with the Education France team from the French Embassy to establish a working relationship in order to promote French tertiary options to our secondary students. Our aim is a French university fair in 2019. Watch this space!

Our Grade 9 students experienced their first US university fair when the Linden Tour visited our school.

Last week, Yoshiko from the Japan Student Support Association briefed our Japanese parents on the latest university entrance news.
Nagoya Visit
We welcomed Nagoya University from Japan last week. A new feature of our university visit program this year is that members of the wider community are invited to attend workshops and briefings. Please feel free to bring along your friends when we next host a university fair or seminar.
Australian Embassy BriefingLast week we held our first-ever Australian Embassy Tertiary Education Briefing at HIS. Topics covered included scholarships, entrance tests, admissions processes, visa regulations and work permits. We thank the Australian Embassy in Hanoi for allowing Miss Huong to lead this very informative briefing.
Education USA
This week the Guidance Counselors from a number of Hanoi's international schools welcomed Mrs Kellee Farmer, the new Cultural Affairs Officer at the US Embassy. We look forward to forging an even closer relationship with the US Embassy this year in order to assist our students to access the very best universities in the USA.
Canadian Scholarships
The Canadian government is offering special entrance scholarships to Vietnamese passport holders. Memorial University in Newfoundland is offering bursaries of between $3000 and $4400. For application details look here
Congratulations to Jennifer
We are delighted to announce that the Dux (highest-scoring student) of HIS for the 2017-2018 academic year is Jennifer (Chae Rin) Oh, who achieved the amazing IB Diploma result of 44/45. Jennifer has been accepted by a number of prestigious universities, including the National University of Singapore and she has chosen this as her destination.
The National University of Singapore is currently ranked #1 in Asia and #12 in the world. We're proud that 2 HIS students from the Graduating Class of 2018 were accepted to study at this prestigious institution - more news on this in the next edition.
Yuna Gets an Offer from Hong Kong University
Yuna adds to her growing list of university offers and acceptance from Hong Kong University, #1 in Hong Kong and #27 in the world on the QS ranking table. Hong Kong University only accepts one in twelve applicants, making Yuna’s offer very special!
Kun Ho’s Unconditional offer!
Kun Ho has received an unconditional offer to study at the University of Sydney. Offers like this in Australia are as rare as hens’ teeth!
Aussie University Fair
Our first ever Australian University Fair was very successful. Our Grade 9 and 11 students all had an opportunity to meet with selection officers and we were pleased to see a number of HIS parents at the event. The British International School also joined the fair, so it was busy! We’d like to thank the staff at the Australian Embassy in Hanoi for helping to organise this event and look forward to forging even closer ties next year.
Sofia's Canadian Adventure is About to Start
We recently received news that graduating student Sofia has been accepted to study Film Studies at Canada’s Ryerson University. This was Sofia’s first choice, so we are absolutely delighted for her!
Will Kun Ho Study In Australia?
This week Kun Ho has received 2 amazing offers from the BEST & oldest universities in Australia - the University of Melbourne & the University of Sydney. He also met with selection officers from the prestigious Australian National University last Monday and they have convinced Kun Ho to apply there too!

This week we heard the news that Kun Ho has made it through to the interview stage at Japan's prestigious Waseda University. He will fly to Seoul for the interview & we feel sure that Kun Ho's passion for science & technology will win him a place at Waseda!
Yonsei University Visit
On Monday 23rd April HIS was very fortunate to host Korea's number 2 university - Yonsei! The admissions staff gave our Korean community vital information about the application process as well as some predictions about the job market over the next decade. Yonsei University has accepted many of our top students in the past and we hope that they offer places to our current graduating class.
Happy News for Bach
This week we received the news that graduating student Bach has been accepted to study at Fulbright University Vietnam, where he has received a 100% scholarship for the first year of study. Only 50 students were selected to join the inaugural class at FUV so we feel especially proud of Bach's achievement. FUV is a non-profit institution affiliated with Harvard University.
So Gang University Visit
On Wednesday 11th April HIS welcomed Korea's So Gang University. Our Korean students and parents enjoyed meeting Mr Kang, the Admissions Officer & found out just what it takes to enter this prestigious university.
Japanese Alumni
Last week eight HIS Japanese alumni met up in Tokyo, including Shotaro & Reina (pictured above).
Shotaro recently landed a job as a web manager at HR Solutions, and Reina is working at Nissan in Yokohama

The 2017 Academic Ranking of World Universities conducted by Shanghai University ranks Utrecht University as #1 in the Netherlands, #13 in Europe and in the world top 50.
