Primary Years Programme (PYP)
At Hanoi International School we believe that High Quality Learning is a transformative process of acquiring knowledge and skills that inspires all learners to take actions to contribute to local and global communities.
Excellence - Educating young minds
Within Elementary, we implement the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) to create teaching and learning programmes that strive towards academic excellence.
The PYP offers an inquiry-based, transdisciplinary philosophy that builds conceptual understanding of knowledge and skills. We use the Australian curriculum standards to develop our Programme of Inquiry within the PYP framework.
PYP students use their initiative to take responsibility and ownership of their learning. By learning through inquiry and reflecting on their own learning, PYP students develop knowledge, conceptual understandings, skills and the attributes of the IB Learner profile to make a difference in their own lives, their communities, and beyond.
Inclusivity - Meeting individual needs
Hanoi International School places students at the centre of everything we do. Our educational approach is driven by the needs, characteristics and wellbeing of all our learners.
Homeroom teachers, EAL teachers, Specialist teachers, Teaching Assistants and members of the Elementary Leadership Team form a group of highly engaged professionals that support vibrant and constructive interactions between students and their teachers. Teaching and learning differentiates instruction to meet students’ learning needs and styles.
Embedded in the PYP framework is the recognition of the importance of fostering an individual's self-efficacy. Students with a strong sense of self-efficacy are active in their own learning and take action in their learning community.
Community - Learning and growing together
The PYP framework begins with the premise that students are agents of their own learning and partners in the learning process. We also value the partnership with our families throughout a students’ learning journey.
The PYP prioritises people and their relationships to build a strong learning community.
Our approach to student care and development stems from the fundamental belief that positive and respectful relationships underpin students’ growth and achievement. Knowing and being responsive to the children in our care, setting high expectations and nurturing a local and an international perspective are factors that help our students find their place in our community and the world.
