Welcome to the 2023/2024 School Year from the Principal

I am delighted to welcome you to Hanoi International School (HIS) on behalf of the community. I hail from Canada, and although I am new to HIS, I have called Asia home for the last eighteen years, teaching and leading in IB world schools and working as an IB lead educator, supporting the development and growth of IB educators and schools. I am excited to call Hanoi home and establish myself as a lead learner in this incredible school community.

HIS is an intentionally small school in the center of Hanoi, a boutique school that provides individualized attention to each learner. The school is fully accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS) and an authorized International Baccalaureate (IB) world school, offering the IB Primary Years (PYP), Middle Years (MYP), and Diploma Programmes (DP). HIS is a founding member of the Mekong River International Schools Association (MRISA), through which students participate in inter-school sporting and cultural exchanges and tournaments in South-East Asia.

The HIS faculty is international, representing over eighteen countries, including a core group of talented and dedicated teachers and staff from Vietnam. The student body is global, comprised of fifteen nationalities. Parents are welcome to learn about all aspects of the IB curriculum and social and emotional development through coffee mornings to be held throughout the year. Parent voice is honored at HIS through the Parent Teacher’s Association (PTA).

HIS is a mission-driven school in its twenty-sixth year of successful operation. Over the past two and a half decades, the school has strived for excellence, shown commitment to inclusion, and focused on a community-driven approach. Excellence is demonstrated daily through innovative teaching and learning practices, rigor across the continuum, and consistently impressive IB results. HIS is inclusive, honoring learners at different language phases and cognitive abilities, and supporting students to achieve their personal best. The school strives to be a diverse, equitable, and inclusive organization through word, action, and ongoing open dialogue. HIS is a warm and inviting school where community values are central. The caring faculty and staff members strive to nurture a safe and loving learning environment with the needs of children always at the center.
