Mission statement

FROM THE PRINCIPAL

18 August, 2010.

School Philosophy:

‘Hanoi International School enables all students to realise their full potential in a caring and positive learning environment. Through our broad and balanced international curriculum we endeavour to develop responsible, globally conscious citizens. We strive to develop the whole child as a life long learner with a strong sense of self worth.’

Welcome to a new school year at Hanoi International School. We are looking forward to a productive and exciting year at school.

I hope that those of you who are returning to the school have had a relaxing vacation and that those who are newly arrived in Hanoi are settling in well. This year we have six new teachers joining our staff: Mr. Mark Forsyth – IB and IGCSE Coordinator and teacher of secondary History and French, Ms. Maureen Forsyth – secondary English, Ms. Kate Holywell – secondary French, Mr. Nicholas Holywell – Business Studies, Economics and History, Mr. Zuhdija Dolovac – ICT and Ms. Mai – Vietnamese. In addition Ms. Oyama will be taking more Japanese classes. We are fully staffed for the start of this year.

Student enrolment remains healthy and many of our grades are already full.

I would like to draw your attention to the following important general matters.

School Calendar.

The calendar is published in the Student Planner notebook which students will receive on their first day. It is also available on the school website and from the school main office.

School Website.

The website address of the school is www.hisvietnam.com. This is a major source of news and information about the school. There is much information posted on the site, e.g. Newletters, Calendar, Handbooks and Special Events so please consult it regularly.

School Handbooks.

There are a number of these e.g. handbooks for Elementary School, for Secondary School, for the IGCSE and IB Diploma examination years. These are distributed to students and families and can also be obtained through the school main office.

Student Health Record 2010-2011.

These forms are attached to this letter and we ask you to fill this in for each child. This is not required for new students as they have already completed this form as a part of enrolment. Please have it returned to your child’s home room tutor. You may well have done this in the past but this requires annual updating.

May I wish you well for this 2010-2011 academic year.

Terry Hamilton.
